country known as the United Nations Organization (UNO) State of Cameroon at its borders with the Republic of Cameroon by way of ceding.
The Guardian learned that President Paul Biya 's withdrawal of his country 's soldiers from the southern portion of the planned UNO state of Cameroon has set the stage for the creation of the UN-led new state.
Biya's withdrawal of troops was formally requested by former U.N. General Assembly President Ali A. Treki on May 20, 2020. This was revealed in a letter from the UN State of Cameroon to Prof. Martins Chia Ateh, the coordinator of workshops appointed by the United Nations in Cameroon and Nigeria, dated 26 May 2020.
Ateh said in the letter:
“Greetings and thank you very much for the attached list of those who were detained in the Nkambe prison of Cameroon in August 2008.
“It is only now that the soldiers of la Republique du Cameroun are being withdrawn from the southern part of UNO State of Cameroon.”
He said it was a good thing Treki kept the records straight.
On UN’s creation of a new country in Africa, Ateh said:
“I should be getting back to you once the United Nations finishes with an official announcement on the existence of UNO State of Cameroon to the international community.”
While conceiving the new state, former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has invited former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and Cameroon's Biya to sign documents respecting the international boundaries of their countries.
It was learned that the documents were signed in March 2003 by Obasanjo and Biya to cede their twin territories (Northern and Southern Cameroon) to the proposed new UN nation in West and Central Africa.
The UN pledged to create a new Cameroon State on July 10, 2020, according to recent news.
Southern Cameroon residents were excited about the merger of their land with Northern Cameroon in Nigeria, comprising 24 local government areas in the states of Borno (five), Adamawa (12) and Taraba (seven).
The Gazette Nigeria learned that the residents of Southern Cameroon have tagged the UNO State of Cameroon as "Ambazonia" since last year during their agitations to separate.
In Nigeria, landmass of the new country stretches from Bakassi Peninsula in Cross River State to Borno State's Ngala Local Government Area in the Lake Chad region.
While referring to ceding five Borno State local government areas, Governor Babagana Zulum 's aide said:
“We’ll study the recent unfolding developments on ceding Bama, Gwoza, Dikwa, Kala/Balge and Ngala councils to the UNO State of Cameroon.
“The state government will also be liaising with federal agencies on how to cede the affected local government areas as Obasanjo and Biya had signed documents with the UN to respect their international boundaries.”
Bama, Gwoza, Ngala, Kala / Balge, Dikwa are among the councils to be ceded to UNO State of Cameroon according to the UN workshop coordinator and chairman, steering committee, Ateh. Others include councils including Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Mayo / Belwa, Toungo, Ganye, Serti, Hong, Jada, Maiha, and Jada.
It was discovered that the UN had held watch over Northern and Southern Cameroons after Obasanjo and Biya signed the documents under the UN treaty before the declaration of the new state.
Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has begun the sensitization process towards the July 10 date of creating the new state for the Cameroonian Anglophone separatists.
Guterres has consistently reached out to the UN representative in charge of the territories, Ateh, according to reports, to constantly organize sensitisation workshops on the brief history of the United Nations State of Cameroon.
As an interested party, the UN is determined and constantly fingered in the arrangement for the actualisation of the new state.
In order to build a new republic, the Nigerian government has been urged to conduct an investigation to ascertain the facts concerning the ceding of 24 local government areas.
According to Google Map, Nigeria is sandwiched between its territory and Cameroon Republics, particularly in the Northeast region with a decade-long Boko Haram insurgency, with Bakassi Peninsula and Lake Chad situated in the south and northeast of the United Nations State of Cameroon.
The new state would have an projected population of 20 million people with a total land area of 28, 214 square km. Last month, President Paul Biya heeded the 72-hour ultimatum given by the United States ( U.S.) to Cameroon to withdraw its troops from the Republic of Cameroon.
Neither the U.S. nor Cameroon had responded to the expiry date before the pullout, until Treki asked Biya to withdraw his troops.
The Cameroonian National Assembly Speaker, Cavage Yeguie Djibrilhad also called on the Cameroonian government to fully implement the new decentralization law that seeks to give local councils and regions greater powers.
Consequently, last December, Biya signed the Law on Promoting Official Language in Cameroon, the Republic of Cameroon 's settlement law for the financial year2020.
The bill deals with the creation of assemblies of chiefs, regional assemblies and councils with each of the two territories having elected presidents, vice presidents, secretaries and managing controllers of public affairs.
